Reception Theory
1) What is the preferred reading of a media text?
what the writers/producers want you to believe
2) What is the oppositional reading of a media text?
what others believe when they read/watch a media text. Also, what the company doesn't want you to think
3) How does the Harry Brown trailer position the audience to respond to the teenage characters in the film?
it presents teenagers as troublemakers and a threat to the society
4) Why might young people reject this reading and construct an oppositional reading of the trailer?
they judge teenagers in making the consumers believe that all teenagers are a threat to society
Look at this McDonald's advert:
5) Write a 150+ word analysis of the McDonald's advert using preferred, negotiated and oppositional readings.
Preferred: the producers want the consumers to believe that the burger is healthy and fulling meal as they said "a meal disguised as a sandwich", they also want the audience to see what ingredients they use for it to look much more valuable and luxurious .
Negotiated: McDonald's isn't the sort of brand to be calling their food "healthy" as McDonald's is known for their unhealthy fast food and McDonald's is one of the most known brands in the world so a fast food restaurant cant come out randomly and make a healthy burger.
