denotations and connotations

 Denotations and Connotations. Denotation: In the advert the company name "WaterAid" it also shows a young boy who looks like he's having a hard time . it also says dig toilets not graves. Connotation: This suggests its helping people that are struggling and need water , and the heading in the advert suggests people don't have access to toilets and its hard for them this suggests its sad, hard etc. its also bad for them as they might not have access to warm showers.  Analysis: This helps the audience understand that young children and adults in the world don't have access to things like others do and understanding their struggles. In addition the text on the picture ("dig toilets not graves") shows the young boy has been through things and trauma , You can also tell by his facial expressions he doesn't look exited or happy but more upset and scared.   Language: The title , tag line billing block (information about the director and the production company) are typical codes and conventions found on poster. The main prop of this poster was the woman sitting down on the chair holding a doll in a dull , eerie room . Also the scratched walls looked like dirty and disturbing. Audience: This looks like it would be targeted at an adult audience . The reason why it would likely fall into the adult audience because its for the   fans who find supernatural , violence , horror entertaining. Industry: The film was produced by New Line Cinema (New Line Cinema is known for producing horror films as they have produced many other original movies). It was directed by a  Malaysian-Australian film maker called James Wan.
